What Causes Stress?
Stress by definition is a reaction to a demand. Demand calls upon one to react in some way, the outcome come of which is perceived as being important to your physical, emotional or mental well being.
While short term stress, e.g. going on your first date or interview is normal and a healthy response to a situation, our biological “flight or fight” response, however, ongoing stressful situations will inevitably impact our mental, emotional and physical health, as well as our behaviour.
Stress starts in our minds as a thought, (e.g. I'm going to be late), the thought generates emotions, (as feelings of anxiety), which in turn may give rise to yet more thoughts related to being late, which inevitably increases feelings of anxiety, fear and related symptoms.
